Dryers
I like to check out Folica from time to time, they’ve got great deals on quality products, tips and advice from fellow hair junkies, and tons of honest reviews, which are invaluable when potentially dropping a lot of cash on something. Here’s the first 5 on their list of top 10 dryers according to customer rating.
- Sedu Revolution Pro Tourmaline Ionic TGR 4000i. Cool Ionic generator seals in hair cuticle and locks in moisture, and it comes with a switch so you can dry with or without it.

- Solia 1875W Thermal Ionic Ceramic. Also has an ionic generator.
- Elchim 2001 Professional (Elchim Classic). This is the one I have, although I bought it a couple of years ago.
- Chi Nano Ceramic Hair Dryer Blue Edition. The grip sterilizes and kills bacteria, negative ion technology, and a low output of EMF (electro magnetic frequency).
- Sedu Revolution Pro Tourmaline Ionic Green TGR 3600. This dryer touts itself as the first professional hair dryer in the industry with energy efficiency in mind.
Now that you’ve got yourself a good dryer, we can move on to products and styling tips.
Styling Products
Personally, I like to first go for a combination frizz fighter and heat protectant. I would recommend a product by Living Proof, either a styling spray or cream, depending on the texture of your hair. According to the reviews on Sephora, the thickening cream does a great job, too. If you aren’t too worried about frizz, go for GHD fat hair volume lotion. It doesn’t smell the best (but it doesn’t smell bad, either) and it does a great job at producing volume. The key is to pick just one, mayyyybe 2 products before you blow dry. You don’t want to weigh your hair down, we’re going for volume! If you want to use a mousse for volume before you blow dry, I highly recommend Paul Mitchell Original Seal and Shine in addition to whatever mousse you choose. It’s a conditioning and heat protecting spray, and since it’s completely weightless, I can spritz it on before the mousse without weighing down my hair.
Style
Now you’re ready to style. Flip your head upside down and blow dry your roots this way. When you start to get too much of a head rush, come up for air, but try to get your roots down this way. Continue blowing your hair dry by using a large round brush and pulling your hair straight out to the side and aiming the nozzle towards the end of your hair so the air is blowing with the scales of your hair, and not aimed at your scalp from your hand, which would be blowing against the scales, roughing up the hair and creating frizz, damage, and general unmanageability. Finish by lightly running your fingers through your hair with a very light shine serum, like John Frieda Serum – Thermal Protection Formula, or Paul Mitchell Frizz Free Polish Gloss Drops. If you’re afraid of getting too greasy, opt for a light hairspray instead and hop on your way. And enjoy all the compliments you get on your hair!
