Body Scrub

It’s summer, and we all want the softest, smoothest skin possible. That’s why you should use a body scrub every once in a while, especially right before you shave, to ensure that you get the smoothest skin possible. I personally prefer Ole Henriksen’s Loofah Body Scrub. Here are the specs:

  1. It comes with Sephora’s “Natural Seal,” meaning it’s formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petro-chemicals, phthalates, GMO, and triclosan.
  2. The active ingredients are walnut powder (mildly abrasive for gentle exfoliation), jojoba wax (a round, gentle exfoliant) and vitamins A and E.
  3. The jojoba beads are mentholated, so when you wash it off it feels cold on your skin, and is super refreshing after a hot summer day. Trust me, I just tested it out for you. Playing basketball in 90° heat? Yeah, it feels great after.
  4. At $28, it’s kind of expensive, but I bought my bottle at least 3 months ago and I’m not even close to halfway done with it.

I recommend trying it out on dry skin once in a while for an extra deep exfoliation. Right before you get into the shower, rub it all over your dry legs, elbows, wherever needs a little extra help. Then get in the shower and add water, rub it around while it’s wet, and wash it off. I always moisturize after, but this stuff leaves your skin so soft you almost don’t even need to. I was worried about the walnut powder, but as someone who is allergic to walnuts, I can tell you that after first testing it on the inside patch of skin by my wrist, I was totally fine, and have used it all over my body without any negative consequences. And I’m a girl who breaks out into hives after kissing my boyfriend who has just eaten nuts. So I can confidently say that most people should be fine. If you have a life threatening allergy though, I wouldn’t risk it.

If you’re looking to splurge on a really nice body scrub, I’m dying to try out Ole Henriksen’s rub n’ buff salt scrub. At $50 it’s definitely a splurge, but based on the loofah body scrub, it’s definitely worth it. A good salt scrub is the top of the line in body scrubs, and will definitely give you the softest skin. This one contains lavender essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, and sea salt. I can only imagine how good it smells!

If you’re looking for a good scrub on the cheaper side, you can’t go wrong with St. Ives. Personally, I’d recommend the Collagen Elastin Body Polish. It too is formulated without parabens and phthalates, and does not contain any animal products and is not tested on animals. It contains ground walnuts, sugar (an all-natural exfoliant that dissolves in water, leaving no residue on your skin) and sunflower oil (a good source of vitamin E and good at retaining skin’s moisture). If you’re worried about either of these scrubs being too abrasive (you shouldn’t be), you can always opt for St. Ives Oatmeal Shea Body Polish. Oatmeal is a natural anti-itch ingredient that is known to soothe irritated and itchy skin.So make sure to scrub before you shave, and show off those smooth gams!
